Thurs. Feb. 21 - Fundraiser Dinner, Play and Games

This fundraiser organized by the Daughters of St. Joseph, was to raise money to help the youth from our area that are traveling to World Youth Day and doing mission work in Fiji this summer. It was a beautiful evening, that all the family could enjoy and DID enjoy! Beyond the financial help to the WYD youth, it was an event that brought families together in a fun, community-oriented way and great opportunity for the girls to develop their wonderful dramatic talent. Congratulations, Daughters of St. Joseph! The Play: The Princess and the Apple, written by Sister Mary Catherine, in play that teaches a lesson about the True Presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist in an allegorical way .... see the pictures for a little synopsis through the captions!

Skiing & Prayer for Boys in Red

Our Moms organized a fabulous outing for the group cross-country skiing, ending with a delicious spaghetti dinner topped by home-made cake. It was DE-LICIOUS!!! Thank you, MOMS!!!!!! Also, the Daughters made a beautiful card for the Coach of the Bathurst Basketball team and each girl wrote what prayers they were going to offer for the repose of the souls of the boys and the Coach's wife and for the comfort of the families. The Sisters stopped in Mabou and lit candles for them at Our Lady of Sorrows Shrine. May they rest in peace. One of the Spiritual works of mercy is to "pray for the living and the dead."

January Gathering

January was another historic moment because it saw the official reception of our first 9 members!! Besides being historic, it was fun - the Confession run got our blood going, some crazy dramas and the Beatified Bird Challenge had us all on the alert to practice virtue to gain feathers for our birds. By the end of the afternoon, rest assured all these birds had a nice warm array of multi-coloured warmth! Father R.D. Smith from Sydney, who was filling in for Father Victor while he is in Nigeria, conducted the ceremony of reception of the 9 official members and also gave a great talk on the Sacrament of Confession. Before Mass we headed over the Church early for some private reflection and prayer time, as well as for Confession. Many Daughters joined Sister Mary Augustine and Sister Bernadette in the choir for the 4:00 pm and it was beautiful! Congrats, girls!

December Baking and Caroling

The girls and Moms were gung-ho for our December work of mercy. We worked together to bake Christmas goodies and make cards for elderly, shut-ins, and other members of our community. Delivery day was fun and also touching as the girls went from house to house with their lovely carols and goodies. Thank you especially to the MOMS who made this all possible! We ended at the Convent where the girls made themselves busy making soup and grilled cheese. I was impressed!!!!

December Bowling Night!!

Hmmmmmm what could we do for our "fun outing" for December...... funny... a few people we asked all said "bowling" so it was a "shoe"-in! (no pun intended). We grew from 7 to about 20 and all enjoyed ourselves immensely! Each team had their Patron Saint and there were awards for team spirit and Christian conduct... pizza at the end and... well.. when is our next outing? There are about 180 pics here, lol, so browse and enjoy at will! (That is what happens when you give free reign to 20 girls to take as many pics as desired on the digital camera:)

Historic 1st Meeting !

After some hack advertising and lots of prayers, our first ever meeting of the Daughters of St. Joseph was held on the first Saturday in December, 1-5 pm, 2007. The 7 who came out can rightly be called our founding members!! May God bless them for being the very first of their friends to get involved!!
